Cemetere de Montmartre

We passed over the Montmartre Cemetery a couple of days ago and dismissed it as a site to see, but reading more about it, we gave it second thoughts.  It's a huge (11 hectares) cemetery in the middle of Paris.   Called by some the "cemetery of the artists", including Edgar Degas, one of the most famous French impressionist painters, famous for his pictures of dancers.  It was established in 1825, and since then has become one of the most famous cemeteries in Paris.  There were tall free standing monuments and family mausoleums.  Some were so old they were deteriorating and in sad disrepair and some were 2013 new.  We were very touched by one in particular.  You could tell the husband was very attentive about upkeep and even kept a chair right by the grave of his deceased wife.
