Aborted Trip to the Redwoods

It was with high hopes that we set out to show Charles and Pennie the Redwood National Forest about 60 miles south of us near Crescent City, California.  On the road we saw a fully loaded logging truck.

Logging is a huge industry here in Oregon.  You would think they would never run out of logs in Washington or Oregon with the acres and acres of trees.

We passed the beaches shrouded in fog, just a hint of what was to come.

On through Brookings and the California border to the Redwoods.

The smoke became thicker and thicker as we approached the forest.

It was so bad I pleaded with Tom to turn back.  He really wanted Charles and Pennie to see the gigantic trees.  However, when we came upon a closed road and firefighters, he gave in and turned around.

On the way back, just passed Brookings, I saw a pumpkin patch.

Tis the season and they were awesome!

We had to get back because we had ordered two homemade pies, one coconut cream and one lemon meringue, and we had to pick them up.  Back to the best pie maker in town, Wedderburn’s.

On the way home we stopped by the fishing area to check out the boats.   It was later in the afternoon and there were fewer boats still out.

We did see the little town set up for feral cats and we even saw a couple of cats.

Now, we have our high hopes set on fishing tomorrow.  Four fish in the boat,  please.  At least one for each of us!
