Postcard beautiful, Rothenburg, Germany

This is our second trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Red Fort on the River Tauber) because we couldn't get enough of it the first time.  Unfortunately, we were delayed in getting here due to road construction..  We sat for almost an hour and a half--frustrating!  But we made it and it's still perfect!
For over 1000 years the narrow streets have welcomed kings and emperors, pilgrims and now international visitors.

We entered through one of the city's four gates and headed to the market square.

The window shopping is the best!

Tom's such a good sport, we walked from one end of the city to the other checking out stores and sights.

Peeking over the wall of the city we see the most picturesque views.

The city gardens are over flowing with flowers.

In 1945 the city was the target of a bombing attack by the allied forces.  The eastern part of the city was destroyed and a total of 40% of the old buildings went up in flames.  Generous financial support from all over the world enabled the destroyed areas to be restored.  It's still protected by exemplary preservation laws.  And we're so glad it is because it's a jewel of Germany.
