A Street Market and a Parade

Today was a great day in Paris--no rain!!  With the combination of Saturday and no rain, the people were out in droves.  Earnest Hemmingway, in his memior "A Moveable Feast" used that term to describe Paris because of the good food available in the fabulous street markets, which move about the city.  In search of a street market, we headed to the Metro.  Four Metro changes and we found a very upscale market on rue Mouffetard.

The seafood was beautiful, bountiful and fresh--the crabs were still alive.  Same for the fruits and vegetables--but none were alive!

We were also impressed with the wall art in this area.

Michele told us about a parade that was to take place today.  It's the Carnaval Tropical de Paris.  Every year in Paris over 200,000 revelers head to this eclectic and cultural event.  The Carnaval Tropical de Paris celebrates Carribbean heritage with song, dance and entertainment of all kinds.

There are performances by around 4,000 dancers, musicians and more.  In addition to the Carribbean representation, other countries heritages are celebrated including China, Columbia, England, Brazil, Vietnam and others.  The costumes are colorful and creative.

We were supposed to meet Michele, but we were a little late and ended up on opposite sides of the street, unable to cross the barricades which were set up for the parade.  See if you can spot her in the pictures.  She has a turquoise scarf around her neck.

Here are a few more of the colorful participants in the parade.

We had a good day cruising the street market and seeing the colorful and enthusiastic participants of the parade!
