There was no post yesterday, because we just watched it rain all day. We did make an early run to the grocery store to gather supplies and did a load of laundry, but other than that, there was a slow constant rain all day.
Today, we started out watching the coverage on CNN International (one of the few English speaking tv stations) of the devastation in Moore, Oklahoma. Our hearts go out to those who lost family, friends and their homes.
We are out early today because Tom had another dentist appointment this morning. We took two buses and made it over to the Bastille area where the dentist office is located. After the dentist, we went back to Sainte-Chappell to check the line. I was hungry, so we went to a restaurant across the street to get a bowl of soup. We watched the line move, so we got in line this time to see the Chapel of Sainte-Chappell. The line moved a lot faster than we thought it would, so we were glad about that. (Only waited about 30 minutes.). Once inside we bought tickets for both the Chapel and La Conciergerie (part of the Palace of Justice). The big draw of Sainte-Chapell is the beautiful stained-glass windows, and they did not disappoint. The whole chapel was fifteen stained-glass windows all the way around. The guide book tells us St. Louis built this gothic masterpiece for Christian relics brought back from the Middle East during the 13th-century Crusades.
We moved on to La Conciergerie. Marie-Antoinette and Robespierre were among the thousands who stared their journey to the guillotine from this palace turned prison. We saw prison cells and watched videos of the condemned, from entry to the guillotine. We walked around the area a bit more and stopped for an afternoon treat of cafe latte and a chocolate eclair. It was worth all the calories!
