Finding Prague

Again we find ourselves grieving over two tragedies here in Europe, the devastating head-on train crash in Italy and the truck attack in Nice, France.  Our hearts go out to the families and friends of  those killed in these tragedies.

After a big breakfast, we bid farewell to Rothenburg, hope to see you again sometime.  It was a beautiful drive to Prague.   We passed rolling green pastures, hay fields and freshly cut wheat fields--a very pleasant trip this morning.
After lunch we met our apartment host for keys and information.  This is a very nice apartment in the heart of the city.
There's a big bedroom with a little siting room, large living area and compact kitchen.

Check out the views from the wimdows, we're on the third floor (fourth floor in the US).   Our home for the next two days.

We are anxious to see the city, so we take off on our own walking tour.
The Vltava River flows through Prague, as it has for over a thousand years, and it's the longest river in the Czech Republic.

There are several bridges over the river, the most famous being the Charles Bridge.

We strolled along the river taking in the sites with all the other tourists.

Next, we  look for the Old Town Square.

We love seeing all the street food and even sample a tredlnik--a slow cooked string of dough dredged in cinnamon and sugar, very yummy!

The square is bustling with people enjoying the evening.

The buildings include The Old Town Hall with an astronomical clock, the Church of Our Lady before the Tyn,  and St. Nicholas Church.

On the way back, we snapped a picture of the Prague Castle,

but I'm sure you'll hear more about that tomorrow when we take a tour or two around the entire city.
