Day Trip to Luxembourg

This morning, we woke up to rain coming in the windows, no less.

It was a nice cooler, lazy kind of day.  But we have plans to hit the road for Luxembourg City.  The GPS took us right to the city center.  GPS's are great, but they can't find you a parking place.
We drove around and around and finally found a place at the Luxembourg train station.

We were going to take a walking tour, but the weather turned rainy here too, so we ducked into a bistro for lunch to wait it out.  Finishing lunch, the rain finished too and we took a self guided tour.
First we saw the Place de la Constitution, the tall column with the gold statue on the top.

We were up over looking  the Vallee de la Petrusse.

There was a beautiful, even elegant park below.

There was a great view of the Viaduct.

The Chemin de la Corniche also called " the most beautiful balcony of Europe".

As we looked over the wall, we were amazed by the greenery, the old stone structures and another view of the Viaduct.

We walked around to find the Place Guillaume II.

The Grand duc of Luxembourg is mounted stately on his horse at the opening to the plaza.

It looks as though this is an event venue.  We saw pictures of flower markets set up there, but tonight it appears to be a musical event taking place.

Around the corner, we see the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral.

As you would expect, there are stunning stained glass windows and saintly statues.

A few more steps, and we encounter a sculpture garden.  It appears to be women, but we don't know for sure.

As the clouds gather and the wind picks up, we head back to the train station and the car.  We take time to check out some of the amazing art in the station--the ceiling and the stained glass certainly add to the charm of the station.

On the highway back to Trier, we see an overgrown bridge.

Wonder if it's really still a bridge??
