ASSISI

On Wednesday, it was Assisi. I LOVE Assisi!! After an hour and a half drive we arrived and found the perfect parking place. The eight of us were off to see what Assisi had to offer.
It was hot and crowded--a lot of people love Assisi and it was the height of tourist season. The little side streets were full of shopping opportunities.
We're here to see historic sites, but a little shopping and eating never hurt anyone. Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, better known as Saint Francis of Assisi, lived from late 1181 or early 1182 to October 3, 1226. He founded the Order of St. Francis (The Franciscans) and an order for women called the Order of St. Clare. The Basilica of Saint Francis is magnificent.
The inside was even more magnificent!
People were looking, praying and generally in awe of what they were seeing.
SAINT FRANCIS
SAINT CLARE
The grounds on the upper level were maticulously manicured with the word PAX (Peace) cut in it and a statue of a humble Saint Francis on a horse.
The little side streets were a delight to peek into.
Asisi is a "must see" for anyone coming to Italy.
