Soup for Supper

It's a cold and wet day, just perfect for soup.  We made a trip to the grocery store for food items, paper items and soup items.  Vegetable beef soup is the order of the day.  We head back to the apartment to make the soup so it can be ready for supper.  Later, we went back into Oberstaufen, and found "Butz".  We found out that the festival he's associated with, corresponds to "Fat Tuesday".  It's called "Shrove Tuesday".  A person representing Butz dresses in a colorful costume and mask.  He carries a brush and sweeps the feet of people and doorways protecting them from disease and bad luck.

We also visited an alpine dairy store.  The drive up to the cheese store was magnificent.  Berghaserei Steibis did not open until 4pm.  We wanted to be there when it opened.  We thought it might be a tour about cheese making, but it was a cheese store with facilities for making cheese, but that part was not in operation today.

There was a nice mother, daughter team running the store, and we were able to sample several cheeses and made our choices.

We chose 3, a sausage and some butter.  Should be a great addition to our soup supper.

We woke up this morning to 37 degrees and snow on the mountain tops out our window.  Can life get any better?
