Windsor Castle

Today we went to Windsor Castle, the family home of the Queen.  It took three different trains, but it was well worth it.  We left the apartment on the tube headed for Paddington Station and got on a train for Slough.

There we changed for a short ride to Windsor.  The trip took about an hour.
We walked through the quaint town of Windsor up to the castle.

Oh, to be the Queen and live in this magnificent home!  The setting is high on a hill to be able to see oncoming invaders, back in the day. However, today it's lush and green, and so very well kept.  Media guide in hand, we're off to take in this massive residence.

All along the wall are small but long vertical openings where the soldiers shot arrows.  I told you it was back in the day!  The castle is over 1000 years old.

St. George's Chapel is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England.  Sorry, no pictures inside the castle.  There are ten Monarchs buried there in addition to many other Royals and important people. Henry VIII, Jane Seymour, Elizabeth I, And Mary Queen of Scots to name a few.

Inside the State Apartments are some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection.  We saw a changing of the guard, always a spectacle to watch.

We are so glad we included this trip in our itinerary.
