We said good-bye to our hosts in Nice and we're on the road to Haag, Switzerland. I asked Tom how he chose Haag and he said he just threw a dart. It was a very small, but none the less beautiful Swiss village. It was the drive to Switzerland that was spectacular! We must have driven through 150+ tunnels. You know there are lots of mountains, after all we are in the Alps, Italian and Swiss.
Lake Como was on our way to Haag. It's one of the most beautiful areas in Italy. (Guess that's why George Clooney chose it for one of his houses.).
One of my favorite things was the waterfalls. Waterfalls everywhere, there is a lot of winter snow! The weather was good, so the driving was easy.
We got to Haag around 3PM, went for a bite to eat and waited for the B-n-B owner to show up.
Her property is on several acres with gardens, fountains and horses!
We had a small very clean and neat sleeping alcove and a modern IKEA bathroom.
Our time in Haag was brief, so on to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It's exactly what you think of when you think of a small mountain German village.
There are cobblestone streets, flower box windows, lace curtains and lots of little shops, including the famous Christmas Store--Kathe Wohlfahrt.
After checking into the Hotel BurgGartenpalais, an 800 year old building with modern rooms and charming authentic German decor, we had our first stein of German beer at lunch.
We walked the cobblestone streets, visiting the shops, seeing the churches and strolling in the parks.
Our dinner was a most typical German meal--bratwurst, sauerkraut, boiled potatoes, a little Reisling and apple struddle with ice cream, of course. To bed after a perfect day in Rothenburg.
